Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A revitalized Medvedev won his initial trophy for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a former world number one, has experienced a difficult year, winning just one match at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with long-time trainer Cervara.

Currently collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually improved in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested three-set win over challenger Moutet.

This represents his first title following the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hardcourt from spring of that year.

Victory also means he has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one distinct events.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a title is really nice," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my child Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six finals, comprising in the German tournament in the past months.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and frequent reactions on the playing surface had led observers to doubt if his skill to perform at the elite level was over.

But the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and compete positively, supported by an enhanced serving game.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, taking four of the last five points to take the lead.

The competitors exchanged breaks in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to push for a final set.

Moutet saved 4 early-game opportunities in a competitive deciding set before the Russian won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, he clinched the title with a point at the net area, with Moutet unable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
